Hal Leading the Way to the Top

Hal has lived in the Treasure Valley since 1977. In a few short weeks he will be climbing Table Rock for the first time in his life. “First time climbing Table Rock. First time with LIMBitless. There’s a lot of firsts going on!”

Hal discovered the LIMBitless Challenge after watching a special on Idaho’s NewsChannel 7 about Boise Police Cpl. Kevin Holtry. Hearing about how Holtry planned on ascending Table Rock, “I thought what a great cause and wanted to find out how I could get involved. I called the station to find out how.” He was put in touch with Ronald Kern, LIMBitless Executive Director.

Not long after that, Hal was eager to assemble a team of his own and mentioned it to Kate Brookshire and Bob Rich, CPO, of Coyote Prosthetics & Orthotics. He wanted to know if anyone was interested in accompanying him. The response he received was a resounding “yes” from employees of the prosthetic company and their sister company, Coyote Design.

Coyote Prosthetics & Orthotics is where Hal has been getting his prosthetic care, following a below knee amputation on his right leg two years ago. “Having that socket has put me back in the saddle again, so to speak, to be able to do all the different things I did prior to my amputation.”

Hal hopes to get more people involved in the two weeks left before the LIMBitless Table Rock Ascent. “It’s going to be a fun experience.” He’s looking forward to the live music at the top.
